What is GISH?

GISH means the “Greatest International Scavenger Hunt,” but it is much more than that. It is a game that changes the world one weird, kind, or beautiful act at a time. Gish is like chicken soup for the soul except you have to drink that soup using your hands as a spoon and you love it. It is an event that brings tens of thousands of fans of good together to make amazing, weird, fantastical art, perform acts of kindness, step out of their comfort zones, and create positive change in the world, often in costume.

The confusion and unknown inherent in Gish can easily cause unreasonable pain and suffering, but it can also also be magical, heart warming, and joyous. It teaches us to look at the world in ways we never thought about before. It shows us things we thought were crazy are totally possible. It reminds us of what it is like to be a child, and tests boundaries we didn’t know existed. It is a strange place where weird people with good hearts can connect and celebrate their special kind of crazy.

Gish is messy, giggle inducing, and inspiring. At some point you will definitely find yourself thinking “Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time,” but I have never finished a Gish without thinking, “I wish life was like Gish everyday.” That is why I am a Gisher for life. If everyday was a little more gishy this world would be a much better place.
